Great Day Came — Pentecost

Here’s an eye opener: Acts 2 begins, “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come …” What’s this “fully come” thing? Pentecost was literally as old as Moses! Yet something remarkable happened on that particular Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. We get the idea from scripture that God Almighty had been on the edge of His seat looking forward to THAT Pentecost since the beginning — and He had great plans for what would follow. Please give this song a listen, then come back here for more!

The garden – before and after

Adam and Eve had a good thing, but gave it away. It is clear from Genesis 3:15 that God already had a plan to move forward. Somehow, a descendant of Eve would end what the serpent had started. But it would come at a cost —

Bruised heel to Eve’s offspring.
Bruised head to the serpent.

The four gospels tell of “the bruised heel” suffered by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That is finished.

We read in Revelation about the promised end of the serpent … the “bruised head”. That is still future.

What about now?

So — what about this time right now, in between the bruised heel of the Gospels and the bruised head of Revelation — what is happening NOW?

It doesn’t seem God said anything about OUR day and time when he made that announcement in Genesis 3:15.

That was intentional. God had a secret, and God kept the secret.

The Bible says if the secret had been known at Jesus’ time, the enemy would NOT have crucified the Lord of Glory! That is quite a secret — the kind God was very able to keep.

But there is great news. Read those parts of the Bible written after Jesus ascended — and this secret is revealed. Paul says of this secret,
“Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed …”

The secret WAS hidden. The secret HAS been revealed.

Too little time and space in this short article. I’ll summarize this way:

Pentecost in Acts 2 was the day God’s secret about the time between the “bruised heel” and the “bruised head” — about the time you and I live in — began to be made known and implemented.

We can read more about this — LOTS more — in the church epistles of Romans through Thessalonians.

Pentecost — fully come

The song “Great Day Came (Pentecost) is about that secret, and about how LONG it took for the secret to be revealed. Those words in Acts 2, “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come” almost shake off the page when we begin to understand how much God wanted this day to come, and what a difference it made — and still makes — to every human alive since.

It was on THAT day the new birth became available.
Starting on that day, people could receive the gift of power from on high, holy spirit, as incorruptible seed.
Starting on that day, people received the ability to do as Jesus promised: the works he did, and GREATER works, too. Hard to believe, but Jesus said it!
Starting that day people could receive “Christ in them, the hope of glory”.
On that day we were given the ministry of reconciliation.

That Pentecost we read about in Acts 2 has been called the birthday of the church. The church was meant to manifest power and ability. I’ve heard it said, “What power we have, if we only knew it!”.

We don’t need to leave that God-given power and ability “on the table”. Let’s RECEIVE IT, LEARN IT and LIVE IT to the glory of God. It’s available!

That great day came — Pentecost! The times are changing, but as I write this, Pentecost is still in the middle of our story! Hallelujah! Let’s run with it!

God bless you LOTS!

LYRICS: Great Day Came (Pentecost)
Song by Dale Reichel

(Bah-ooom-chick-a-boom-chick-whop-whop)

1) Back in Garden of Eden Town
In Paradise an awful thing went down
Adam & Eve took the fall
Messed things up for one and all

2) The Lord saw the serpent and WHAT HE SAID!
You’re gonna bruise a heel, we’re gonna crush your head
Future fix to anticipate
But don’t hold your breath, you’re gonna have to wait.

3) So, Paradise was out; the Patriarchs in,
Then Moses got the law, and Judges begin
Kings started ruling at a later date,
But to see God’s plan folks would have to wait.

4) Then at last Christ was here
He told them it was the acceptable year
The devil threw a punch and thought he was ahead
But God raised Jesus up from the dead.

5) The victory was great, the devil was beat
The resurrection knocked him right off of his feet
But he didn’t dream how bad he had lost
Til that great day came: Pentecost!

6) Newness of life, fellow heirs
Seated in the heavenlies with power to spare
It’s Christ in you, Christ in me
—- The hope of glory!

7) Now here’s a thought to make you smile:
We’ve been given the job to reconcile
Willing souls to a loving Lord
Then collect rewards that are heaven-stored.

It’s exciting to think of the anticipation factor!! Unfortunate that many churches don’t even recognize this important day!
