Joy In My Heart

I heard a radio ad. The company said their service would replace my fear with peace. Their plan for peace was to show me how to arrange my money so I would be set financially for the rest of my life. I agree — a good financial plan can bring a kind of peace. The good news is we can have THAT kind of peace, and even greater peace, too. Not all peace is the same. To compare the peace that comes from a healthy bank statement with the peace that Jesus brings is to compare the light that comes from a candle with the light that comes from the sun. (Picture a candle and the sun right now, and you’ll quickly see what I mean!) We benefit from both kinds of light, but we must see how they are different. Give our song a listen, and then come back and we’ll unpack the wisdom of this fun “kid’s” song.

For us kids

“What IS a kid’s song?” That’s how Doctor Borg started the class on how to teach music to young people. We discovered his question was not easy to answer. I might have thought a successful kid’s song could NOT be about love AND joy AND peace AND heart AND forever AND condemnation AND the devil AND JESUS JESUS JESUS. This song, “Joy In My Heart”, would be evidence I was wrong. This song touches on all of those ideas.

Love, joy, peace, heart, forever, condemnation, devil . . . and JESUS

Kids, do you see anything in that list you would like to know more about?
Parents, have you taught your kids everything you know about these names? (For instance, that one of these names is above all the others.)
Pastors — any sermon, seminar or book topics here?

What rewards, what benefits, what advances result from coming to a knowledge and understanding of each of these names! For entertainment alone, no movie or novel or contest can compete. Here are the treasures that deserve our time and affection. And here is a song that brings these names to the front of our thinking, to help us navigate toward riches of The Kingdom.

Candle light and sun light

Peace through prosperity alone is fragile. The Bible laments people who put money in “bags with holes in them.” Like a candle’s light, the riches can disappear with the puff of a breeze. But when we seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness, His enduring blessings are added to our account. In God’s economy, He makes it available that we can ALWAYS have all sufficiency in all things so we can abound to EVERY good work. He does not package His blessings in bags with holes. That which is blessed of God will outlast that which is blessed by the world only.

Though “Joy In My Heart” doesn’t mention candles or sunshine, it encourages us to think about differences between those two sources of light. I’d say any song that can do THAT — for kids of all ages — qualifies as a good song.

There are a lot of songs that are worth learning at an early age that will continue serving us the rest of our lives. “Joy In My Heart” is one of those. And — it’s fun to sing, too! Let it bubble in your mind and heart today. Enjoy!
God bless you lots!

LYRICS: Joy In My Heart

1. I have the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart (Where?) down in my heart.
I have the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart  (Where?)
Down in my heart to stay.

CHORUS:
And I’m so happy, so very happy
I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart.
And I’m so happy, so very happy
I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart.

Verse 2. I have the peace that passes understanding
Verse 3. I have the love of Jesus, love of Jesus
Verse 4. For there is therefore now no condemnation

5. I have the wonderful love of my blessed redeemer
Way down in the depths of my heart (Where?)
Way down in the depths of my heart (Where?)
Way down in the depths of my heart.
I have the wonderful love of my blessed redeemer
Way down in the depths of my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart to stay.

6. And if the Devil doesn’t like it, he can sit on a tack (Ouch!)
Sit on a tack (Ouch!) sit on a tack.
And if the Devil doesn’t like it, he can sit on a tack (Ouch!)
Sit on a tack forever.
