Walking With Jesus

Here’s a song to decorate the play room of your mind with more happiness. Give it a listen, and come back for more.

Walk in the counsel of Jesus

What does it mean “walk with Jesus”? Large topic for a brief note, but we can begin to paint a picture with the help of some Bible verses. Let’s start with what it is NOT:

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. (Psalm 1:1)

Look at this blessing in the very first verse of the Book of Psalms. Blessed is the man that walks NOT — in what? In the counsel of the ungodly. When it comes to important matters of life we get blessed if we don’t get our advice, direction or instruction from people who don’t know God and His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. When we walk with Jesus we look to him for advice, direction, instruction — for counsel.

Walk in the light of Jesus

I John is another good place to read on walking with Jesus, and on how to have fellowship with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. Read it and see God is light. If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship. Psalm 119 says “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Walking on a dark path? Bring a light!

Walk in the works of Jesus

Ephesians is a mountaintop epistle! Look at the benediction closing out chapter 3: Now unto him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…

ABOVE all we could ask or think. That is our God.

I don’t care what is going on in your life — if you will read the book of Ephesians with a heart to learn — every day —- for a week, I believe you will benefit in remarkable ways. Six chapters in Ephesians —- can you read three a day for six days? Then all six the last day? Just one week can be amazing. Give it a try.

While you are in Ephesians, pay attention to the setting of this remarkable “walk” verse in chapter 2: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” First he makes us able, then he gives us wonderful things to do.

Praise the Lord! ?

Walk with Jesus on the Road to Emmaus

There’s a beautiful painting depicting the account in Luke 24 of two men who literally walked with Jesus on the road to Emmaus shortly after Jesus’s death. It is quite a story!

They were walking along, sad, because they were discussing what had just happened in Jerusalem. Along the road they were joined by the resurrected Jesus himself! They did NOT recognize it was Jesus. Jesus asked them what they were talking about that made them so sad. This new person’s ignorance of current events stunned the two men. They asked Jesus if he were only a stranger, new to this area. “Don’t you know what just happened here?” Then they told him — they told JESUS — about Jesus of Nazareth, the chief priests and rulers who condemned Jesus to death, the crucifixion — and even the reports, hard as they were to believe, that Jesus had risen from the dead.

Jesus took it all in.

Isn’t that amazing?!? I wonder how many people have had Jesus right in front of them and did not know it? Luke says Jesus had plenty to say. “…beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he [Jesus] expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Jesus, the same yesterday, today, forever

Where did Jesus take these two men during that walk? To the Bible — starting from the beginning. (Genesis is generally thought to have been penned by Moses, and it would be a perfect place to begin teaching about Jesus!)

Do you think you and I could still read the Bible and find verses concerning Jesus??? We, too, can start in Genesis. But if you are a bit impatient, do as I suggested above, and spend a week in Ephesians. When you do, be sure to ask the Lord to walk through with you and show you things. Those two men on the road to Emmaus should not be allowed to have all the fun!!!

II Corinthians says we walk by faith, not by sight. “Not by sight” does not mean we don’t have our eyes open — we DO have our eyes open — to read, and live, and learn what the Lord has done, what the Lord is doing, and what is coming. If the Lord says it, we respond by believing it, by doing it, by speaking it —- in a word, we WALK.

God bless you lots,
-Dale R.

How did you DO that!?!?! ?

This sentence gave me a shiver:
“I wonder how many people have had Jesus right in front of them and did not know it?”

Kind of like entertaining angels unawares, but even more so! It’s a great reminder to seek truth from the source (God) and love well, as though we are loving Jesus himself. (Matthew 25:40)
