I’ve learned this the hard way: ALWAYS, 100 % of the time, I MUST CHANGE INTO GRUBBY CLOTHES BEFORE PAINTING. Even if I’m only just LOOKING at a can of paint, somehow I will get some paint on me.
It seems that focusing on good thoughts and sharing them with others works like that. When we dish out things that are good, positive or helpful, we find some of that good “splashes” back on us. Works just like paint, but with a happier result!
Enjoy this song, then come back and we’ll talk about living sunny side up.:
So much good to look at!
When we live on the sunny side, we LOOK at what is good instead of grousing about what is bad. “It’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness.”
If you are looking for a place to start looking for good, I have excellent news:
God’s will is good
The Bible has lots to say about how good God is and the good things He brings to us. God likes good! He invented it!
We can prove God’s goodness for ourselves
God invites us to PROVE His goodness for ourselves. Do you have any situations, relationships, opportunities or challenges you’d like God’s help with? In Romans 12, God gives us a standing offer — He asks us to engage Him personally and prove His goodness! God asks us not to be conformed to this world but. rather, to be transformed by renewing our minds, “that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
He asks us to learn — and pay attention to — what He has set up for us in Jesus Christ, and adjust our thinking to that truth. As we do that, we will see God’s good will come to pass.
He asks us to think and live in His light, rather than to think and live like people who don’t know the Lord and only seek what this world has to offer.
Truly, the glitter of this world fades away, but the light of God shines forever. Living in God’s light — THAT’S the sunny side!
We CAN do something about our happiness
“Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Let’s get our thoughts working for us, learn what the sunny side of life looks like, and decide to keep ourselves there. Every truly happy place is within listening distance of the Lord.
I’ll close with this recipe for keeping on the sunny side from Philippians 4. These are good words to pin on the wall and store in the mind:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Sunny side UP!
God bless you lots,
LYRICS: Keep On The Sunny Side Of Life
Words: Ada Blenkhorn (1858-1927)
Tune: J. Howard Entwisle (1866-1903)
There’s a dark and a troubled side of life;
There’s a bright and a sunny side, too;
Tho’ we meet with the darkness and strife,
The sunny side we also may view.
Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life;
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way,
If we keep on the sunny side of life.
Tho’ the storm in its fury break today,
Crushing hopes that we cherished so dear,
Storm and cloud will in time pass away,
The sun again will shine bright and clear.
Let us greet with a song of hope each day,
Tho’ the moments be cloudy or fair;
Let us trust in our Savior always,
Who keeps us everyone in His care
