This Is The Day (“new”)

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” [Psalm 118:24] This is a favorite verse from among many greats found in Psalm 118. Please give it a sing-along listen, then come back and we’ll look at more of this wonderful psalm.

What day is it?

I love the simple, bright and clear message of this song. Well … at least I thought it was simple and clear until I poked around and did some more reading. I found suggestions that the day Psalm 118:24 has us celebrating might be :
— “today” literally
— the day Christ returns
— the “day of the Lord”
— various feast days
— the day of battle

I’ve probably missed some.

Okay, fair enough — what ever day it is, we can be sure the Lord will be there. And if the Lord is there, we can rejoice and be glad.

The day that the Lord has made …

Want to have a remarkable time? Find a comfortable place where you can sit for awhile, close your eyes and think about what the Lord has made. For this exercise, begin with “the day” — this very day. What is in it? What did it take to get what’s in it in it?
There are things.
Time.
Light.
Life.
Promises.
Purpose.
Plans.
People.
(and how about air, gravity, birds and the ability to think about what we are thinking about?!?)

Go ahead and see what you can find from this little list and what else you easily discover that you want to add to it. See where your thoughts end up after just a minute or two.

Are you seeing the Lord’s presence in all this?

While you are there, don’t forget to visit with Him. He is always happy to see you and to hear from you.

Psalm 118

It is not surprising that the same Psalm that says “… we will rejoice and be glad …” also gives us lots and lots of reasons to rejoice and be glad. Here are just a few:

verse 1: “He is good”
verses 1-4, 29: “His loving devotion endures forever”
(note: This line appears five times in this Psalm. Why not say it five times right now?)
verse 5: “I was distressed — I called on the Lord — He answered — He set me free”
verse 6: “The Lord is on my side …”
verse 7: “He is my helper”
verse 14: “The LORD is my strength and my song

I encourage you to read all 29 verses of Psalm 118 and find even more reasons given there to “rejoice and be glad”. As you find them — well — rejoice and be glad!

If you’ve been looking forward to gladness arriving someday, why not decide this is the day?!?

God bless you lots
-Dale R.

LYRICS: This Is The Day (new version)
Text: from Psalm 118

Tune writer’s name not known (help, anyone?)

1 This is the day, this is the day.
That the Lord has made, that the Lord has made.
We will rejoice, we will rejoice,
And be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day
That the Lord has made.

2 We are the sons, we are the sons,
Of the living God, of the living God.
We will rejoice, we will rejoice,
And be glad in Him, and be glad in Him.
We are the sons of the living God.
We will rejoice and be glad in Him.
We are the sons, we are the sons
Of the living God.

Email gets that job done where social media fails. We do well to connect this way, and avoid getting throttled by social media.)

Thanks for posting this different version – enjoyed it. Of course, you are always free to post any of Charlie’s songs he has written. He wrote them to be sung not to sit around.
